As osteopathy clinicians, we’re trained to see the body as a unit. We understand that structure and function are interrelated, and we know the nervous system is the primary regulator of health and adaptation.

In clinic, we feel tone.
We observe eye strain.
We notice imbalance.

But how often do we quantify eye movements, reaction time, dual-task performance, or cognitive processing speed?

Most of the time, we don’t.

Without objective measurement, these changes are difficult to monitor precisely.

Eye movements offer a window into central integration. In concussion cases, we frequently observe strain during pursuits, inaccurate saccades, reduced tolerance to visual motion, and symptom provocation with convergence.

Instead of saying, “Your eyes look better,” you can say:

  • Latency reduced by 80 milliseconds

  • Error rate decreased by 30 percent

That level of specificity is powerful — both clinically and professionally.


How This Fits Beautifully Into Osteopathic Practice

Integration might look like this:

An initial assessment that includes structural evaluation (cranial, cervical, thoracic), autonomic markers, and a BTK baseline measuring saccades, pursuits, reaction time, balance, memory, and executive function.

Followed by a manual treatment session.

Then a post-treatment micro-retest.
